Teen dies trying to rescue companion after fall at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train station

A teen is dead trying to rescue a companion at a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train station.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, a 19-year-old man died after falling onto the electrified third rail at the MBTA’s Forest Hills Station.

According to MBTA Transit Police, both he and a 19-year-old woman entered the station carrying flags from Caribbean countries during Boston’s Caribbean Carnival. The woman became unsteady, lost her balance near the platform edge, and fell toward the tracks. The man tried to help her up and both fell into the right-of-way. He landed on the third rail.

The male was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital.

Police say foul play is not suspected.

The victims have not been publicly identified.

The incident remains under investigation.
