A popular Bristol County eatery has announced a development that should bring joy to their customers.

The Star Drive-In is a beloved, family-owned drive-in restaurant located at 205 Myricks Street in East Taunton.

Established over 50 years ago, it has become a local staple for casual dining, emphasizing quick service, affordable prices, and a fun atmosphere for families.

The spot is particularly known for its classic American fare, including hot dogs, burgers, fries, seafood like fried clams and scallops, ice cream treats, and seasonal specials.

In August, Star Drive-In announced on social media the very difficult decision to close at the end of the terms of their lease in March 2026 due to unspecified issues. However, after their announcement, the public expressed how much they wanted the spot to stay open and ownership relayed through social media posts that they were working towards a possible resolution.

On Saturday morning, they announced a significant development.

“The property owner and the business owner of The Iconic Star Drive-In, located at 205 Myricks St., E. Taunton, Ma. have come into an agreement to extend the existing lease until June 30th, 2026. There is still much work to be done in the next 90 days, but we also have a signed Purchase and Sales Agreement.”

While the restaurant doesn’t appear to be out of the woods just yet, the announcement certainly gives reason for optimism for those hoping that The Star Drive-In tradition continues.
