Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced the conviction and sentencing of a 49-year-old Taunton man for child molestation in the Fall River Superior Court.

Daniel Gomes pled guilty in the Fall River Superior Court before the Honorable Raffi Yessayan to three counts of Aggravated Rape of Child with a 5-year Age Difference, three counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child under Fourteen and one count of Obscene Matter to a Minor.   The defendant was sentenced to serve 10 to 12 years in the State Prison followed by 10 years of supervised probation.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Casey Smith.

In July 2022, the victim, who was 8 years old at the time, disclosed that Gomes, who was the husband of an older relative, had sexually molested her on multiple occasions when she was between the ages of 5 and 7 years old.  The victim indicated the rapes and sexual assaults happened in both Brockton and Taunton.  The victim described that Gomes showed her pornographic videos on his phone and recounted multiple acts of indecent assault and battery and rape committed against her by the defendant.

Gomes pled guilty to similar charges in Plymouth County where he received a State Prison sentence of 8-10 years followed by 5 years of supervised probation.  Both sentences will run concurrently.

“The defendant took advantage of his access and relationship to the young victim and repeatedly molested her.  Fortunately, the victim did not have to go through a trial. The state prison sentence was well deserved,” District Attorney Tom Quinn said.
