Taunton and Pawtucket men arrested after highway chase involving Massachusetts State Police, East Providence Police
A Bristol County teen and a Rhode Island man were arrested after a chase that started in Massachusetts and ended in Rhode Island.
According to police, on Wednesday evening, East Providence Police were notified of a Massachusetts State Police pursuit that was terminated at the Rhode Island line. Shortly after, one of the alert EP officers spotted the suspect vehicle exiting I-195 West onto Broadway and initiated a felony car stop.
During the stop, one occupant fled on foot, while the driver was taken into custody.
The operator, 29-year-old Devonte Bonds of Pawtucket, RI, was charged with felony drug possession of 69 Xanax pills. After a brief foot chase, the fleeing passenger, 19-year-old Mathew Garcia of Taunton, MA, was located and apprehended by East Providence officers and charged with Obstruction and Resisting Arrest.
Police in Massachusetts will also have criminal charges.
