Local crews responded to a crash into a business on Wednesday morning.

According to the Swansea Fire Department, shortly after 6:00 a.m., the Swansea Fire Department and Swansea Ambulance Corps were dispatched to 440 Swansea Mall Drive, East Bay Surgery Center, for a vehicle that had driven into a commercial building. The driver was able to exit the vehicle prior to arrival of emergency personnel.

Upon arrival, fire crews made a quick assessment of the building’s structural integrity and ambulance personnel checked the female driver for injuries. She was uninjured and refused transport.

Fire personnel deployed an EV emergency plug device, designed to disable electric vehicles, preventing further movement of the car as it was stabilized. Protective material was placed under the vehicle to prevent damage to the Li-ion battery compartment as it was winched from the building.

The vehicle was removed from the building without further incident and building officials deemed the building safe to resume normal operation.
