Swansea and Somerset responders visit boy battling devasting disease with bravery
On Wednesday, local law enforcement paid a visit to an ill boy to show their support.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Landon Sweet of Swansea has been diagnosed with a rare disorder called Erythromelalgia.
The condition is characterized by episodes of excruciating pain, redness, and swelling in various parts of his body, particularly his legs. To Landon, it feels like his skin is on fire. However, the condition has been spreading to other parts of his body making daily life unbearable.
His condition is considered rare in children.
Landon has not been able to attend school consistently as he is constantly in excruciating pain which has led to him having to be tutored so he doesn’t fall behind.
A family member stated that Landon has not been able to be a typical ten-year-old boy who gets to have sleepovers, play with or maintain friends or participate in sports. The condition has prevented him from being able to walk and function like a normal kid.
Landon requires special cooling treatments and lots of medications to help maintain some level of comfort. We are told he will never have what we consider a “normal” life yet takes his condition on with bravery.
Landon’s mother Krystal told Fall River Reporter that she was thankful for today’s visit.
“Landon and the Sweet family are so touched that the Swansea and Somerset Police Dept came by to see Landon.”
Responders didn’t just hang out with Landon but also came with gifts including a fire helmet, patches, and ice cream.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, including Landon.
