Suspicious device seen at Dunkin’ determined to be a hoax police say

TAUNTON — Chief Edward J. Walsh reports that the Taunton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad are investigating a suspicious item found at Dunkin on Broadway earlier this afternoon.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Taunton Police and Fire received a 911 call from a Dunkin employee stating that a suspicious item was found outside of the door at Dunkin, 232 Broadway.

Police and fire personnel responded to the scene, and based on the appearance of the item, assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was requested.

Dunkin was evacuated out of an abundance of caution and the roads surrounding the area were closed while police responded to the scene.

The bomb squad determined that the device was not explosive in nature. It was quickly determined the item was a hoax and there was no danger to anyone.

The incident is being investigated by the Taunton Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Anyone with information is strongly urged to call 508-824-7522.
