Suspended Lawyer Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Supreme Court Justice
Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announces the arrest of a former lawyer on charges of threatening a Supreme Court justice.
The suspect, identified as Nicholas Gelfuso, age 36, whose last known address was 91 Curtis St., Cranston, was arrested by members of the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force on a warrant charging him with:
· Threats to Public Officials
· Cyberstalking and Cyberharassment
The arrest stemmed from an investigation by members of the Rhode Island State Police Major Crimes Unit into allegations that Gelfuso sent numerous emails containing threats against a member of the state judiciary. Detectives obtained a warrant for Gelfuso’s arrest earlier today and he was arrested without incident during a motor vehicle stop this afternoon.
Gelfuso is scheduled for arraignment in Sixth Division District Court later today.
Gelfuso, who was a Rhode Island attorney, had his license to practice law suspended by the Rhode Island Supreme Court on June 20, 2017.
