Suspect in Westport robbery tells police “it’s stimulus money”
Westport Police have captured a suspect after several thousand dollars were allegedly taken from a home.
According to Westport Police, on Monday October 18, police responded to a residence on American Legion Highway to take a report of stolen money.
The reporting party stated approximately $7,000 was taken from the house sometime over the weekend.
On Tuesday, detectives spoke with the complainant and followed up on leads provided to police. Detectives obtained surveillance footage from local establishments and were able to positively identify 31-year-old Brian Harer, in possession of a large sum of money.
Detectives eventually were able to locate Harer who first told them, “it’s stimulus money.” Detectives continued to question Harer who eventually confessed to stealing the money.
Harer is being summonsed to Fall River District Court for Larceny Over $1200, which is a felony in Massachusetts.
The money that was recovered was returned to the owner.
