Sunflower Project brings beauty to Fall River

Published

on

With the blessing of land owner William Lapointe, former Fall River resident Del Thurston decided to do the great Sunflower Project to help increase the bee population. The decrease in bees has become a national topic as of late. If we don’t have many bees to pollinate, we would have no vegetable plants or flowers. The project also helps provide information about what is happening with the pollinators. The end results are all of these beautiful lemon queen sunflowers.

Del wants to brighten the neighborhood and put smiles on people’s faces. He also wants to raise awareness for a community garden. He started getting into gardening 14 years ago and still has his full time job at the waste treatment plant. This is his first year doing the project and he is hoping Mr Lapointe will let him turn it into a community garden. Along with the Sunflower Project, Del also does the community garden at Bristol Community College. The sunflower garden is located at the corner of Oak Grove Avenue and Bedford St.
