If you like heartwarming stories, this one is for you.

According to police, this week, a 14-year-old Needham resident walked into the police station—not in trouble, not for a school project, but because he was concerned about someone else in the community.

He shared with officers that during his walks home from the gym, he had twice come across a local resident in a wheelchair who was struggling to get around in the heat. Each time, this young man stepped in and helped push him home.

With summer camp just around the corner, he came in with one simple request: that police keep an eye on the resident while he’s away for 8 weeks. He wanted to make sure someone was looking out for him in his absence.

For his kindness, Officer Eddie Bayiates and Clinician Emily Turnbull surprised him with two ice cream cards and some Needham PD swag. He even finished the conversation after receiving the swag with, “thank you sir, thank you ma’am”.

When you are feeling that hope for humanity is lost, think of this teenager from Needham.
