Stop for motorcycle traffic violation leads to drug charges; rider currently being held until next court appearance
Portsmouth, RI – (June 17, 2022) – During the month of June 2022, members of the Portsmouth Police Detective Division developed information regarding the illegal distribution of Fentanyl within Portsmouth.
According to Portsmouth Police, the subsequent investigation identified 47-year-old Ryan Walsh of Norton Massachusetts as the suspect.
On Thursday, at 6:30 p.m., Walsh was stopped for a traffic violation on his motorcycle as he entered the Town of Portsmouth. With the assistance of the Middletown Police Canine Officer, fifty suspected Fentanyl pills were located in a compartment on Walsh’s motorcycle.
Walsh was arrested and charged with Manufacture/Possession/Delivery of schedule 1/1 narcotics and held overnight at Portsmouth Police Headquarters. Walsh was later arraigned at the 2nd Division Courthouse in Newport and is being held at the Anthony P. Travisono Intake Service Center until his next court appearance.
