State Trooper injured after vehicle crashes into stationary police cruiser on Route 6
The Rhode Island State Police investigated 18 crashes and responded to 36 calls for disabled motor vehicles/spinouts during the storm Tuesday.
In addition, a Trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck from behind while attending to a crash scene on Route 6 East in the Town of Johnston. At approximately 3:10 PM, Troopers responded to calls for a single-car crash at the top of the Hartford Avenue on-ramp to Route 6 East. A Honda Accord, operated by 24-year-old Eneye Ayeni of Cranston, was traveling in the first lane of travel approaching the crash scene when at approximately 300 feet west of the cruiser, Ayeni lost control of her vehicle and subsequently struck the rear of the State Police cruiser.
The Trooper was transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries and later released.
Ayeni declined treatment on scene and was cited for violation of the “Move Over” law and Conditions Requiring Reduced Speed.
The crash remains under investigation.
