State Police: One dead, three others injured after two-car crash on Route 95
One person is dead, and several others are injured, after an afternoon highway crash.
According to Rhode Island State Police, on Wednesday, just after 2:00 p.m., Rhode Island State Police from the Hope Valley Barracks responded to a two-car crash on Route 95 North in Richmond.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling north in the right lane was rear-ended by another vehicle traveling at high speed. Both vehicles veered off the roadway and overturned into the woodline.
The driver and passenger of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of the second was taken to Kent County Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene but ultimately not used.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
The northbound lanes were temporarily closed for about 30 minutes to accommodate the helicopter, and traffic was rerouted onto Route 138.
