State Police identify 59-year-old killed in Route 6 motorcycle crash

State Police have released information about a Route 6 fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Thursday.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., State Police Headquarters received a 911 call for a motorcycle crash on Route 6 West, before the on-ramp for Route 295 South in Johnston, Rhode Island.

The investigation determined that the motorcycle was traveling in the first lane when it entered the left shoulder, subsequently missing the on-ramp for Route 295 South. The motorcycle continued westbound along the left shoulder, where it struck a large earth-mound abutment and then collided with a highway sign.

The operator, 59-year-old Nicholas Nevola of Cranston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While the investigation is ongoing, no other vehicles were believed to be involved.
