State Police: 18-year-old dies from injuries after early morning crash on Route 195
An 18-year-old has been killed after an early morning crash on Route 195 authorities say.
According to State Police, Sunday morning just after 2:15 a.m., Troopers from the Lincoln Barracks as well as members from the East Providence Fire Department responded to a crash involving a single motor vehicle on Route 195 West in the City of East Providence.
The investigation revealed that a Honda sedan was traveling on Route 195 West in the area of the East Shore Expressway (Route 114). The vehicle lost control on the roadway during the heavy rain. The vehicle veered to the right across three lanes of travel and exited the right side of the roadway. It then struck a large rock. The vehicle then traveled left back across three lanes of travel and struck the high-speed barrier where it came to rest. The operator and lone occupant was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The operator was identified as 18-year-old Jefferson Zaid Lara Romero. Romero was from Spain but was staying with family in Providence.
