BOSTON – Southern New England could see record breaking cold in the coming days with a little snow thrown in.

According to the National Weather Service Boston, a weak cold front moves across the region tonight, accompanied by scattered showers of rain and snow. Behind the front, mainly dry and seasonably cold temperatures Tuesday through Thursday. Dangerously cold airmass arrives late Friday into Saturday, with widespread below zero temperatures expected by Saturday morning. Some ocean-effect snow showers are possible across Cape Cod. Temperatures rebound quickly on Sunday.

Wednesday into Thursday…

Generally cold and dry conditions Wednesday as high pressure builds in from the west. Below normal temps Wednesday with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s moderating to upper 30s Thursday.

Friday into Saturday…

Polar vortex drops south east from Hudson Bay region and moves into the Maritimes Friday night and will deliver pure arctic airmass to Southern New England. Fortunately, with lack of high latitude downstream blocking, it`s a quick shot of arctic air, focused in the late Friday through Saturday time period.

Temperatures are expected to rebound on Sunday.

Records throughout Massachusetts are negative single digits for February 4th which is expected to be broken. Not looking for people to go screaming through the streets in a panic. Just stating facts.

Thanks Ken! So true. I think I’m still reeling from the headline “southcoast to focus on plowing with first snow storm, with focus on inclusion. 🤣.

No panic in the streets! Lol. Good one.
