Southeastern Regional Transit Authority announces that direct express service between New Bedford and Fall River Terminal to return
The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority has announced that the Route 9 – Intercity Express will return on December 15, 2024, providing direct express service between the SRTA New Bedford Terminal and the SRTA Fall River Terminal. The service will run hourly every day with weekday trips starting at 6:15 AM through 10:10 PM; weekend trips will start at 8:15 AM and end at 8:10 PM. Travel time between the terminals will be approximately twenty-five minutes, less than half the trip of the current Intercity Route travel time.
The introduction of the Route 9 Intercity – Express is additional service to the current Intercity route, which will continue to make stops at the Dartmouth Mall, UMass Dartmouth and all points in-between.
The Route 9 – Intercity Express was funded by a grant of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation as part of the Regional Transit Authority Connectivity Grant program. The program funds projects that increase connections between transit routes and service areas. A total of $10 million in funding was issued to nine regional transit authorities including the SRTA.
“Residents across our state rely on Regional Transit Authorities to get to work, school, the grocery store, doctor’s appointments, and more. This funding will increase service options and make commutes easier, in addition to our recent investment to make service free at most RTAs,” said Governor Maura Healey.
