Southcoast Health named to Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Greatest Workplaces

FALL RIVER, NEW BEDFORD and WAREHAM, Mass. – Southcoast Health announced today that the not-for-profit community health system was again recognized as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces 2025 by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group for the second consecutive year.
Broken down by industry, Southcoast Health is among 16 hospitals and health systems in Massachusetts to earn this recognition on the healthcare specific list. Out of the 16, it is one of only six organizations in the state to earn a 5-star rating.
“This achievement exemplifies our dedication and commitment to embracing and delivering a collaborative, supportive and welcoming environment for all,” said David O. McCready, President and Chief Executive Officer for Southcoast Health. “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our wonderful teams across the system who continuously strive to enhance our positive culture and interdisciplinary teamwork. This ongoing effort enables us to provide expert clinical care seamlessly to our patients and community.”
On the list, Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group recognized companies that were chosen through a comprehensive assessment involving employee interviews, company reviews, publicly accessible data and an analysis of over 120 key performance indicators. Respondents additionally provided insights and experiences on corporate culture, working conditions and more. Read more about the methodology here.
“At Southcoast Health, a main priority is focusing on the wellbeing of our employees as passionately as we focus on the wellbeing of our community,” said Lauren De Simon Johnson, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Southcoast Health. “It’s not just about engaging our talent; it’s about delighting our talent in every way we can. In everything we do, we make sure we are embracing an employee-centric culture that fosters teamwork, respect, recognition and engagement.”
“Recently, we implemented a comprehensive, customized development program to assist our leaders in honing their people leadership skills. Through this effort, we have seen a significant improvement in employee retention, organizational communication and employee satisfaction, as reflected in our annual employee engagement survey,” she added.
According to Newsweek, engaged employees who are “highly involved and enthusiastic about their work and workplace” increase profitability by 23 percent, productivity by 14 percent and sales by 18 percent.
“Companies that emphasize building a strong workplace environment see higher levels of employee engagement. And with higher employee engagement comes a range of benefits. That’s why Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group are partnering for the third-annual ranking of America’s Greatest Workplaces, recognizing the companies where employee engagement comes naturally,” said Jennifer H. Cunningham, Newsweek Editor-in-Chief.
