Southcoast Health is named to Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals for the seventh consecutive year

FALL RIVER, NEW BEDFORD and WAREHAM, Mass. – Southcoast Hospitals Group, consisting of Charlton Memorial, St. Luke’s and Tobey Hospitals, has earned global recognition on Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Hospitals 2025.
This is the seventh consecutive year Southcoast Health has been recognized, maintaining the not-for-profit community health system’s status as an “All Time Winner.” The health system also received special recognition by performing “above average” for CMS infection prevention measures for the second time since 2019.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of every one of our employees and providers who care for our patients and community with talent, teamwork and dedication,” said David O. McCready, President and CEO of Southcoast Health. “Earning a spot on this list for seven years in a row exemplifies the exceptional patient care and service our teams provide across the South Coast region. On behalf of the entire Southcoast Health leadership team, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who made this achievement possible.”
The World’s Best Hospitals list is compiled by Newsweek and the global data research firm Statista Inc. as a resource to help patients make informed decisions when choosing the right hospital for their care. This prestigious list additionally serves as a benchmark for hospitals, indicating their relative performance in comparison to both national and international peers.
This year, over 2,400 hospitals were ranked from over 30 countries, with only 420 hospitals from the United States earning a spot on the list. Just 15 hospitals from Massachusetts and Rhode Island earned this recognition, and Southcoast Hospitals Group was one of 10 hospitals in the region to be recognized for excellence in infection prevention.
“In addition to receiving the global recognition by being named to the list, I am proud that we earned special recognition for our performance in infection prevention,” said Dani Hackner, MD, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Southcoast Health. “As part of a comprehensive approach to high reliability, we take healthcare acquired infection prevention very seriously. To ensure we are keeping our patients, providers, staff, and community safe, we tap into a greater team across the entire health system, including leadership, clinicians and operators—a team with a relentless dedication to our culture of safety and the commitment to keeping our community healthy.”
To evaluate each hospital’s performance, Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. To learn more about the 2025 methodology please click here.
