South Coast Rail work to impact street parking, cause street closure
The South Coast Rail team has released information about upcoming work being scheduled by the project in the month ahead.
The MBTA’s contractor will be working 24-hours a day during an upcoming 9-day track outage coordinated with the freight rail operator to facilitate the removal of existing track infrastructure and the installation of new bridges, ballast, rail ties, rail and other project infrastructure without interruption due to active freight traffic.
This outage work will be advancing in October, potentially into November. Dates are being determined by the project and will be shared soon.
The following is the work that can be expected during this 9-day outage.
Fall River: 24-Hours/Day Bridge and Track Work
1. Location of Work: •Farm Road railroad bridge reconstruction and culvert work in the railroad right-of-way behind Point W Drive/Horizon Way in Fall River
Access to the railroad right-of-way for this work will be through Point W Drive and Horizon Way. There will be no street parking on Horizon Way and parts of Point W Drive to allow access for large trucks, materials and equipment. Signs will be posted.
Hours of Work: 24-hours/day
2. Location of Work: •Railroad right-of-way track work between Terry Avenue and New Street in Fall River •Collins Street railroad bridge replacement in Fall River •Ashley’s Underpass railroad bridge replacement just north of Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility site in Fall River
For this work, Collins Street in Fall River will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. All through traffic will be routed to Clark Street.
Hours of Work: 24-hours/day
Taunton and Berkley: 24-Hours/Day Bridge and Switch Installation Work
The contractor will also be working up to 24-hours a day during the track outage installing railroad switches in the railroad right-of way south of the East Taunton Station site (1141 County Street) in Taunton and Berkley. This will include activity at the station site.
Overnight Transportation of Soils to Assonet and Weaver’s Cove Site in Fall River
To prepare for overnight track work, the contractor will export material by truck off of the railroad right-of-way to designated stockpile locations in Assonet and the Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility site in Fall River where soils will be stockpiled and spread.
Location of Work: •Construction Yard, 11 Campanelli Drive, Assonet •Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility, 2680 North Main Street, Fall River
Hours of Work: Overnight 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM during outage
24-Hours/Day Excavation and Drill Shaft Work (for support wall) in Taunton and Raynham
Location of Work: •Excavation in railroad right-of-way at Middleboro Avenue overhead bridge in Taunton •Drill shaft work (for support wall) in railroad right-of-way between Church Street in Raynham and Middleboro Avenue in Taunton
Hours of Work: 24-hours/day
Overnight Transportation of Soils to Middleborough Station Site
Soils excavated from the above work along the Middleborough Secondary will be transported by truck to the new Middleborough Station site where the soils will be stockpiled and spread.
Location of Work: New Middleborough Station site, 161 South Main Street, Middleborough
Hours of Work: Overnight 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
