Son remembers Fall River man who died from injuries in afternoon scooter crash

Family members say a Fall River man who was injured after a scooter crash Friday afternoon has died.

According to Det. Sergeant Matthew Mendes, an off-duty officer was on his way home at approximately 5:15 p.m. when he came upon what appeared to be an accident, involving a pedestrian, at the intersection of Rodman and Manchester Street.  The officer called for assistance and stopped to provided aid.  

It has been reported that a male was crossing the road on a mobility scooter when he was struck by a motor vehicle.  

The male was transported to an area hospital with brain damage from a major head injury.

The motorist remained on scene. 

According to his son, Daniel, Ronald (Rocky) LaForest Sr. died from his injuries Saturday morning and was a man who loved getting around on his scooter.

“My dad loved to ride his scooter everywhere. Especially the bike path. He loved WWE wrestling, fishing, and hanging out with his friends and family. He passed away this morning surrounded by family at 5:12.”

The Major Case Unit and Accident Reconstruction are investigating the crash. 

Services have yet to be announced.
