Somerset, Swansea, Fall River crews respond to fire at multi-family home that displaced two families
Several local crews battled a residential fire in the heat on Friday afternoon.
According to the Somerset Fire Department, at approximately 1:00 p.m. the department received multiple calls about a possible structure fire in the area of Lees River Avenue.
Upon arrival, the on-duty crew confirmed a structure fire in a large 3-family style home at 330 Lees River Avenue.
The department stated that the home was built using balloon frame construction which resulted in the fire working its way from the area of origin, all the way to the attic. The bulk of the fire was knocked down quickly, but due to the balloon frame construction, extensive overhaul was needed to chase hot spots.
There is moderate smoke, fire and water damage to the home.
Two families are currently displaced.
The Somerset station was covered by off duty members of the Somerset Fire Department and the Swansea Fire Department.
The Swansea Fire Department, Swansea Ambulance Corps., Fall River EMS, Fall River EMA and the Providence Canteen assisted.
