If you were planning on attending the concert at Pierce Beach tonight, it has been postponed until tomorrow due to the rain. You can listen to The Temporary Saints this Thursday night at 6 PM instead. As always, the concerts have free admission and there are food trucks on site as well. Don’t forget your blanket and chair. See you there!

Selectmen to Discuss Lawsuit

The agenda for tonight’s Board of Selectman meeting lists discussion in executive session regarding a lawsuit brought forward by a former employee of the Somerset Highway Department. Cynthia Dollar is suing the town of Somerset and Highway Department Superintendent Christopher Simons, alleging mistreatment relating to her age and gender as well as claims of a hostile work environment that included allegations of retaliation.

Dollar was eventually terminated by the town. Court dockets show a jury trial scheduled for January 20th, 2025.

In Case You Missed It

Society Coffee Bar was approved for the addition of an outdoor dining area and outdoor entertainment license at their County Street location by the Board of Selectman earlier this month. The outside area will add seating for 32 people and will offer what owners Keith and Debra Viveiros say will be acoustic music no later than 10 PM.

Raise the Roof

Lynn Berube, the new Director of the Somerset Housing Authority tells us that three of the roofs at the Kennedy Terrace housing complex are being replaced and that a new maintenance shed has been added to the rear of the property. Berube says there are more capitalization projects in the works, so stay tuned.

Show Me The Money

The Somerset TIF Board met last night and voted to accept a letter for South Coast Wind requesting consideration for a tax incentive. The company, which won a bid to provide 1,200 megawatts of power to Massachusetts from ocean turbines, has plans to build a substation in town at the site of the former Brayton Point Power Plant.

Car Show to Support Bristol County Veterans

The Veterans Association of Bristol County is hosting their 6th annual Car Show this Saturday, August 3rd at Bristol Community College from 9 AM – 3 PM. The event is free and will have food, music, vendors, raffles and more. If you want to register a vehicle, the fee is $20, and you can do so at VABC.org. I heard that members of Somerset’s own Bristol County Car Club are on the judge’s panel. Beep beep!

Remembering Virgil

This installment of the Somerset Scorecard is written in memory of longtime Somerset resident Virgil Pacheco. Virgil was a member of the Economic Development Committee and an elected member of the Planning Board who passed away last December. You are missed every day.
