A local man killed in a recent motorcycle crash is being remembered.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III previously announced a fatality related to a motor vehicle crash involving a dump truck at 814 Grand Army Highway (Route 6) and Milford Road in Swansea on Friday morning.

Massachusetts State Police along with Swansea Police were dispatched to the motor vehicle crash on Route 6 at approximately 8:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, police located a blue Can Am Spyder Roadster which sustained damage due to a collision with a dump truck.  A single operator of the motorcycle was located with life threatening injuries.  That operator was identified as 67-year-old Alan Scott of Somerset.  Scott was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at a local hospital.  The dump truck operator was not injured.

Scott’s employer, Erland Construction, issued a touching tribute after his passing.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alan “Big Dawg” Scott, a beloved member of the Erland family whose impact on our company, our industry, and the people around him cannot be overstated.

“For 29 years, Alan brought extraordinary dedication, wisdom, and heart to Erland, serving in many roles and leaving a lasting mark on generations of colleagues and trade partners. As a longtime Safety Committee Chair, he championed a culture of care and accountability, helping shape the values and practices that continue to guide us today. His knowledge was vast, his mentorship generous, and his presence steadying.

“Alan will be remembered not only for the professional legacy he leaves behind, but for the way he lived, with curiosity, gratitude, and deep connection to others. A prolific reader and founder of Erland’s first book club, a devoted lay pastor in his local faith community, and an eloquent storyteller with a gift for bringing people together, Alan enriched the lives of so many well beyond the jobsite.

“To know Alan was to know someone who led with humility, shared his wisdom freely, and found joy in people, ideas, and the everyday moments that matter. He will be sorely missed beyond belief.

“Please join us in remembering Alan’s remarkable life and many contributions to the construction industry, and in keeping his family, friends, and community in your thoughts and prayers. His legacy lives on in the people he mentored, the culture he helped build, and the countless lives he touched.”

According to an obituary, Scott was to begin celebrating his retirement on Thursday.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday, May 2nd from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. His Funeral Service with Requiem Eucharist will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Church, Main St. Swansea. A private burial will follow in the Christ Church Cemetery.

The investigation into the crash is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Swansea Police Department.
