The Somerset Fire Department has reported some sad news.

Their beloved administrative secretary, Jeanne Geary passed away unexpectedly. She was 62 years old.

Though Jeanne was not a firefighter/paramedic she was considered by all, as part of the department.

SFD released the following statement:

“She became our work mom. Jeanne had a passion for life, a fierce smile and loved her family beyond words. She liked to talk about her loved ones (specifically her grandchildren) but most of all she was always interested in our families and what was going on in our lives. She truly cared for us, to the point she called the men and women of the Somerset Fire Department “her guys”. She always gave each member a thoughtful Christmas gift. One year Jeanne crocheted 35 blankets so each member of the department could have one. Jeanne kept the candy jar stocked for us. It was kept by her desk. She had many department “fish” throughout the years, the fish tank was kept on her desk…she always knew when someone else fed the fish, because she would have to clean up the fish food all over her desk after. Jeanne was so much more than our “secretary”. Hold your loved ones tight and have a laugh in Jeannes honor!”

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 15th at 9am from Hathway Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial to follow in Our Lady of Peace Parish at St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea.

Burial will be private.

If you would like to donate in Jeannes honor, there are multiple ways you can do so. SFD has an account at the Somerset Federal Credit Union under the “Scott Jepson Memorial Fund”. You can deposit cash or write a check. You can also drop off cash or checks at the fire department. And lastly, you can donate to their Venmo account below. All donations will go directly to Jeannes family to help with funeral and medical costs.
