Somerset family turning their pain into action after 10-year-old dies from brain cancer
Somerset, MA — Somerset native Selina was a sweet and sassy 5th grader whose bright spirit and courage touched everyone she met.
Selina bravely battled diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a devastating pediatric brain cancer, for eight months before passing away at just 10 years old in 2018.
In the face of unimaginable loss, her parents, Ken and Michelle Oehmen, transformed their pain into purpose by founding the Massachusetts (Somerset) Chapter of The Cure Starts Now. A foundation dedicated to funding pediatric brain cancer research and finding a cure for all cancers.
On September 22nd the Oehmen’s will be hosting the annual Bowling For Pediatric Brain Cancer in honor of Selina at AMF Lanes Somerset from 12 pm – 4 pm. Bowling registration includes three games plus shoes. All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend!
“Selina always wanted people around her, she loved a party, so let’s bowl in her honor.” – The Oehmen Family
Want to do more than bowl or not interested in bowling? Don’t miss the optional convoy led by Jeeps and Trucks of New England to AMF Lanes! All vehicles are welcome and encouraged. The starting location will be Star Drive-In (205 Myricks St., East Taunton, MA 02718). All
participants who preregister for the convoy will receive a special decal to proudly display on their vehicle.
All proceeds will benefit pediatric brain cancer research in honor of Selina. There will also be raffle tickets for sale, t-shirts, and other merchandise which benefit The Cure Starts Now Massachusetts (Somerset) Chapter.
