Fall River Police arrested a juvenile on Wednesday afternoon after an incident.
According to Captain Barden Castro, at approximately 4:21 p.m., officers responded to a report of a male breaking into a motor vehicle.
The male suspect fled the area on foot, but was caught by officers after a short foot chase.
Investigators quickly learned that the vehicle in question belongs to a student at B.M.C. Durfee High School of Fall River. She had allowed another student to keep a bag in her trunk during the school day. The male juvenile who fled from police was apparently trying to break into the car to retrieve a handgun which was later found in the bag. The handgun was seized and is being processed by evidence technicians.
Castro stated that this is still an active investigation with detectives following up on the matter. There is no indication thus far that the firearm was brought inside of the school. The Mayor’s Office and Fall River Public Schools Department are actively working with the police department to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff are safe.
The juvenile male detained by officers following the foot chase was ultimately placed under arrest for the charges of Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Attempt to Commit a Crime, and Assault.
The arrest caused Durfee High School to have added police presence Thursday as a precaution.

Any student in Fall River that has any brains or any potential attends a Catholic or Private school in the region.
Ignorance at it’s highest. Maybe if you would like to support the families of students whom attend Durfee with financial aid to attend Catholic or private schools, families will jump at the opportunity! My child has attended Durfee since freshman year and is at the top of all her classes. Many successful students have graduated from Durfee. Just because you attend a Catholic or private school doesn’t guarantee success, the students are responsible for their own success in life Mr. David.
