Somerset 17-year-old loses battle with cancer on day of fundraiser, here is how you can help

A Somerset teen has lost his battle with cancer.

According to family, it all began when 17-year-old Zach Deane wasn’t feeling well. After initial treatment with antibiotics failed, additional bloodwork was completed by his doctor. The results were alarming, and their doctor referred him to RI Hasbro Children’s Hospital immediately. At Hasbro Children’s Hospital further tests revealed the unthinkable: Zach had a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The cancer started with a mass on his prostate and had spread to his bones, lungs, and spine, leading to the stage four diagnosis.

Zach loved soccer and his teammates held a car wash to raise funds on Saturday.

Somerset Public Schools announced Saturday night that Zach passed away.

Counseling staff will be available at the high school on Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for students wishing to come together or seek counseling.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized by a family member to aid the family with what lies ahead.

If you are referring to the article about Selina… she passed away in 2018. The article was about their bowling fundraiser in her honor.
