Smell of natural gas sends students at Fall River school home early

Crews responded to an odor at a Fall River school that has led to an early dismissal.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., a call came into dispatch for a report of a natural gas odor in the area of the main office at the Robert L. Medeiros Resiliency Preparatory Academy at 290 Rock Street in Fall River.

Fire and rescue units were dispatched to investigate and evaluate the situation.

According to School Committee Member Collin Dias, the school was evacuated, and parents were being notified of an early dismissal with transportation for students being secured.

The building has been cleared for re-entry, and the cause of the odor is being investigated.
