Sheriff’s Office: Massachusetts man dies during trip to Florida
A Massachusetts man has died while on a trip to Florida.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 61-year-old North Weymouth, Massachusetts man died following a snorkeling incident Saturday on Alligator Reef off Islamorada.
Patrick Alan Martinec was snorkeling with Sundance Watersports, a company that provides snorkeling, parasailing, SNUBA dive, and sunset cruises in Islamorada, when he began signaling for help in the water at approximately 2:20 p.m.
He was brought back to the vessel where the crew began CPR and took him ashore.
Martinec was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not expected to be a factor in the investigation.
Autopsy results are pending.
