Sheriff’s Office looks to warn public after receiving many reports of scam involving Bristol County

It may be a new year, but scammers are still using the same old tricks, but with a twist.

The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office has received many reports recently that there are scammers calling Bristol County residents impersonating BCSO officers.

According to the BCSO, these callers have gotten quite inventive and have started using real officer names, made their caller ID say “Bristol County Sheriff”, and use real information about their victims to lure them in.

Their most common schemes are telling their victims they have missed jury duty or have a warrant out for their arrest and must pay an exorbitant fee to avoid jail time.

The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office states that they will never call you demanding payment of any kind.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a BCSO officer and demanding payment, hang up immediately.

The BCSO asks to keep yourself and others safe in 2025 by sharing their 3 safety tips with friends and family.

1. Never give personal or financial information to strangers over the phone.

2. If you suspect a call might be a scam, immediately hang up and contact local law enforcement.

3. Remind loved ones to be cautious when answering calls from unknown numbers.
