Services to be held for Massachusetts and Rhode Island family members killed in mass shooting
Services have been announced for the three family members who died in the active shooter tragedy at the Dennis M. Lynch arena in Pawtucket on February 16th that also claimed the life of the alleged gunman Robert Dorgan.
According to an obituary, 75-year-old Gerald Dorgan who passed away on Wednesday, February 25th, was a respected natural leader and constant thinker who tackled problems directly, renowned for his exceptional handyman skills that allowed him to fix nearly anything, big or small. He thrived on helping family and friends with projects and, in retirement, pursued hobbies like restoring Mustangs, often tinkering in his garage or tending his yard while whistling tunes. A witty storyteller, he delighted in reenacting humorous daily encounters and found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as a good cup of coffee, engaging conversations, and watching Patriots games with his son-in-law.
52-year-old Rhonda Dorgan of North Providence, who passed away on Monday, February 16th, was a dedicated single mother and clinical laboratory scientist who worked tirelessly at Eleanor Slater, Sturdy Memorial, and Brigham and Women’s hospitals, often taking extra shifts to support her family. She was an enthusiastic “hockey mom” type, passionately cheering on her children’s athletic and academic pursuits in sports like hockey, lacrosse, football, dance, and softball. A free-spirited woman with a warm smile and infectious laugh, Rhonda loved concerts, theater, travel, outdoor adventures, and beach time, while being a loyal friend and generous community member who always helped others. She cherished family vacations, time with her nieces, and recently found joy with her partner, Tommy Geruso.
23-year-old Aidan Dorgan of North Providence, who also passed away on Monday, February 16th, was a talented high school athlete in hockey, lacrosse, and football, who graduated from Merrimack College in 2025 with a mechanical engineering degree. He worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, while pursuing his master’s at Merrimack, showcasing his bright mind and love for random facts that amused family and friends. A music enthusiast skilled in guitar and drums, and a devoted country music fan, Aidan was a thrill-seeker who cherished adventures, his Mustang, and playful games with his younger cousins, embodying a boisterous, fun-loving spirit. He was engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Starr, with whom he shared a bond of laughter and loyalty. Aidan was a true friend who made everyone feel welcome and valued. His everyday moments and unforgettable adventures will forever bring comfort and smiles to those who knew him.
Visiting hours will be at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, on Sunday, March 15th, from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. The Dorgan family will remain until everyone who comes to pay their respects, has an opportunity to do so. The funeral service and burial will be private.
A GoFundMe fundraiser, has raised over $310,000 for the family for the cost of services and expenses resulting from the tragedy.
Two others were injured by the gunfire during a hockey game at the arena. Robert Dorgan/Roberta Esposito was there to watch his son play on senior night when he reportedly opened fire.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident including a possible motive.
