A Freetown man is being remembered after sustaining fatal injuries in a crash on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Freetown Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS responded to a 911 call reporting a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash with possible injuries in the area of 170 South Main Street, near Copart.

Police, fire, and EMS units arrived within minutes and immediately rendered medical aid. Two victims—an adult male and an adult female—were transported by Freetown Fire & EMS to Charlton Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Due to the severity of the operator’s condition, the Massachusetts State Police were notified.

South Main Street was temporarily closed in both directions between Copart and Stop & Shop to allow emergency personnel to treat the victims, stabilize the scene, and remove the vehicle. The roadway was reopened later in the evening.

John Remedis died from his injuries. His wife was the other injured occupant.

Friends say that Remedis was a decorated Vietnam War veteran and retired police detective. Remedis had a distinguished career spanning decades in law enforcement, serving in both Massachusetts and Florida. He was also a beloved community figure as a DJ under the moniker “Johnny Angel,” entertaining at local events with his charismatic personality and love for classic tunes. Known for his generosity, he volunteered extensively, supporting veteran services and charities, and was remembered by friends and family as a “shoulder to lean on” who always put others first.

Remedis’ calling hours are Monday 12/15 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Rock Funeral Home. Funeral Service will take place at Rock Funeral Home on Tuesday 12/16 11:30 A.M. then proceed to Graveside Assonet Burying Grounds 40 South Main St, Assonet.

The crash remains under investigation by the Freetown Police Department.
