Services announced for 64-year-old Fall River fire victim, remembered for love of Fall River, contagious personality
Rui A. Albernaz, age 64, of Fall River, passed away, Sunday, July 13, 2025. Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, a son of the late Antonio and Alda Maria (Ferreira) Albernaz, he came to the United States in 1970 settling in Fall River.
In the early 1980’s, he worked at Shelburne Shirt. He also worked as a dishwasher at Magoni’s Restaurant and the Venus de Milo Restaurant.
Rui had a contagious personality and loved to call everyone buddy. Rui had a deep love for dancing, and he will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, wisdom, kind spirit. Rui loved the city of Fall River and was well known to the community, especially on the South end of the city where he lived most of his life.
In his younger days, Rui had a passion for dancing — his feet were always ready to move to the music, and his joyful energy was contagious. Whether at family celebrations or local gatherings, Rui could light up a dance floor like no one else. He also had a deep love for travel. Exploring new places brought him happiness and fed his curious and vibrant soul.
He also loved trying his luck with the lottery — always hopeful, always dreaming big. To Rui life itself was a dance and a gamble worth taking.
He was deeply loved by his family and friends. Known for his good humor, generous heart, and carefree spirit, Rui brought comfort, laughter, and warmth to everyone he met. He was the kind of person who could make you feel better with just a few words.
Rui leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family. He will be greatly missed by his four brothers, Robert Albernaz and his wife Eduarda of Fall River, Walter Albernaz and his wife Olga of Deltona, FL, Namesio “Max” Albernaz and his wife Aurora of Fall River, Steven Albernaz and his wife Darcy of Middleboro; one sister; Alda Langlois and her husband Ernie of Pawtucket, RI and nieces and nephews along with the other family members, Walter Albernaz, David Albernaz, Alan Albernaz, Kyle Ferreira, Justine Albernaz, Jocelyn Albernaz, Matthew Albernaz, Katlyn Albernaz and Ava Albernaz and by all whose lives he touched.
His Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 8:00 to 9:30AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St. Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Burial private.
