Services announced as New Bedford woman killed in pedestrian collision remembered for warmth, generosity
OBITUARY
Mary “Sissy” Ptaszenski, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2026.
She was born on September 21, 1955, in Riverside, New Jersey, and spent her entire adult life in New Bedford, Massachusetts, a place she proudly called home.
Mary was the heart of her family, known to most as “Sissy”. She was a devoted mother to Ron Ptaszenski Jr., Jason Ptaszenski (wife Christal), Chris Ptaszenski (wife Holly), Desirae Norcross (husband Walter), and Craig Ptaszenski. She was also a cherished grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
She was a beloved sister to Butch (Martin) Snow, Terry Silvia, Dale Snow, Nancy Mello, the late Roy Snow, Gwen Gregory, Danny Snow and Dean Snow. Mary had a natural gift for bringing people together, especially around food. She loved hosting family gatherings, going out to breakfast, and sharing simple pleasures like pizza and burgers with the people she loved most. Those moments of laughter, conversation, and togetherness meant everything to her.
Mary will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. Her presence filled a room, and her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Though her passing was sudden, the love she gave and the memories she created will live on through her family for generations.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Her funeral service will be Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 559 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.rock-funeralhome.com.
