Seekonk Police arrest 35-year-old man after co-worker slashed in the throat
Police have arrested a local man after allegedly stabbing another man who is a co-worker.
According to Captain Matthew Jardine, on Saturday, medical staff at Rhode Island Hospital reported the victim of a stabbing to the Providence Police Department. Initial information obtained from the victim led Providence Police to notify the Rehoboth Police Department, as the victim believed the incident transpired in Rehoboth, MA.
Further investigation would reveal the alleged assault took place in Seekonk, in the area of 135 Olney Street.
The Seekonk Police Detective Division assumed jurisdiction and initiated an investigation.
Police stated that the victim and suspect are co-workers, employed by a local farm in Rehoboth, MA. On Saturday, the victim and suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Juan Carlos Alvarez, got into an argument where a physical altercation ensued. It is alleged that Alvarez slashed the victim in the throat with a knife.
The victim sustained a significant laceration to his lower neck and was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. He is reported to be in stable condition.
During the morning hours of Wednesday, Seekonk Police Detectives executed an operation where Alvarez was taken into custody without incident.
Alvarez was charged with Assault and Battery with Dangerous Weapon and Assault to Murder.
Alvaraz was arraigned in Taunton District Court this afternoon and held for a dangerousness hearing at a further date.
