Salvation Army Massachusetts Division announces new leaders for Fall River location
The Salvation Army Massachusetts Division has announced Captains Sergo and Edelyne Lalanne as new leaders of the nonprofit’s Fall River Corps and Community Center at 290 Bedford Street. The new officers will take charge of the organization’s day-to-day operations, including community programs, social services and worship services.
“In communities like Fall River, where nearly 20 percent of the population is living in poverty, many local residents rely on The Salvation Army for their next meal, gifts for their children at the holidays, and to give them hope in tough times,” said Captain Sergo Lalanne. “We are excited to help meet the need of this community and to continue to grow our youth programs.”
According to the organization, “Captain Sergo has served with The Salvation Army for more than 30 years, holding positions ranging from youth program coordinator and community center director to commanding officer and pastor. Most recently, he served for 12 years across New Jersey before arriving in Fall River in June. He holds a master’s degree in biblical studies from Asbury Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the City College of New York.”
Salvation Army stated that “Captain Edelyne holds a bachelor’s degree in nonprofit ministry management from Asbury University. She shares her husband’s passion for ministry and service with a focus on women’s programs and creative outreach through arts, crafts and recreational activities. Together, the couple has led initiatives such as music and arts programs for youth in Newark, New Jersey, and an English as a Second Language program in Orange, New Jersey. They have five young adult children.”
“We work together as a team alongside families in need throughout our communities,” said Captain Sergo Lalanne. “We are eager to build on the strong foundation already here in Fall River. Through youth programs, women’s ministries and family support services, the community can count on our support every step of the way.”
The Lalanne’s will step out into the community with local supporters who are putting their best foot forward in support of the nonprofit on Saturday, September 27, 2025 for The Salvation Army of Fall River’s “Fall River 5K.” The event raises critical funds for The Salvation Army’s youth programs. Each year, funds raised from the event help send dozens of local children to The Salvation Army’s overnight camp, Camp Wonderland, in Sharon, MA at little or no cost to their family.
The Salvation Army in Fall River has served residents in Fall River, Freetown, Assonet, Swansea, Somerset and Westport since opening in 1884.
