Saint Anne’s Hospital announces for sixth consecutive year it has achieved the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award
Saint Anne’s Hospital has announced that, for the sixth consecutive year, it has achieved the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™.
This distinction places Saint Anne’s Hospital among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades.
The Patient Experience Award also follows Saint Anne’s 2022 Healthgrades Patient Safety Award, given this past spring for the seventh consecutive year.
For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,173 hospitals that submitted at least 75 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from July 2020 to March 2021. Of those hospitals evaluated, 399 hospitals outperformed their peers—based on their patients’ responses—to achieve this award.
Nationally, hospital performance rates dropped year over year in 9 of 10 survey questions. Saint Anne’s Hospital improved year over year in 5 survey questions, including communication, likelihood to recommend, and overall rating of 9 or 10.
“A patient’s experience depends on many factors,” said Michael Bushell, president of Saint Anne’s Hospital. “Excellent clinical care is foremost, but patients also value many aspects of their care. Things like clear explanations from their doctors and nurses, timely help when it is needed, getting answers to questions, and having a clean room and being able to sleep at night are all part of their experience. By meeting our patients’ medical, emotional and comfort needs, our staff strives to provide an overall great experience.”
Bushell also notes that recognition of these high standards amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic is especially gratifying.
“Our providers and staff are committed to care with compassion and respect at all times, no matter how challenging,” he said. “We couldn’t be prouder that this award recognizes them among the country’s top 5 percent for patient experience.”
Healthgrades evaluates performance by applying a scoring methodology to ten patient experience measures, using data collected from HCAHPS survey of the hospital’s own patients. Survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. The topic of these questions range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to medication explanations and hospital staff responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family and their overall rating of the hospital.
“We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science, Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience, while ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
