Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village announce passing of beloved Willie the donkey

An animal that won the hearts of many has died.

Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village has announced the passing of their beloved Willie the donkey.

Willie, who celebrated his 30th birthday just this past July, had been receiving medical care for some time. He passed peacefully Sunday, surrounded by the love of his dedicated zookeepers.

Willie arrived at the Zoo on July 26, 2002, at the estimated age of 8.

For over 20 years, Willie brought immeasurable joy to our visitors, staff, and volunteers. His gentle spirit and playful personality will be deeply missed. He was truly an extraordinary ambassador for the Zoo, and his presence will forever be felt throughout the farm.

The zoo will always remember Willie.
