Rideout with approximately 100 ATVs and dirt bikes leads to 6 arrests, confiscation of six ATVs
According to police, in August 2025, the Pawtucket Police Department received numerous reports of dirt bikes and ATVs riding in sizable packs throughout the city, particularly around the East Avenue section of the Oak Hill neighborhood. Complainants described riders engaging in hazardous maneuvers like wheelies and burnouts while ignoring traffic regulations, akin to participants in “ride-out” gatherings. These events typically feature crowds of riders who disrupt roadways, flout traffic rules, harass drivers, and execute risky tricks, posing dangers to themselves and others.
On August 30, 2025, Pawtucket’s Special Squad teamed up with Providence Police Department’s Community Response Team (CRT) for a coordinated effort targeting an anticipated “ride-out” involving unauthorized dirt bikes, ATVs, e-bikes, and off-road vehicles expected to cross both cities.
During the event, authorities spotted around 100 riders moving as a unit across the areas, leading to major traffic backups, disregard for signals, blocked crossroads to keep the group intact, sidewalk usage, and perilous stunts.
“I applaud the joint work between the Pawtucket Police Department and Providence Police CRT for this effective initiative,” stated Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien. “We won’t stand for the growing disturbances and safety risks from irresponsible ATV and dirt bike operators. My team places public safety first and will keep working to protect the well-being of every neighborhood.”
“Tackling illegal ATV activity has been a key focus for my administration and the Providence Police since the beginning,” added Providence Mayor Brett P. Smiley. “Our CRT is actively removing these unlawful vehicles from our roads through community reports, undercover operations, social media monitoring, and surveillance tools. These actions have positively impacted our residents, boosting safety and improving overall quality of life in a more secure and lively setting. This partnership with Pawtucket highlights how teamwork bolsters security, and I’m grateful to our officers and collaborators for their dedication.”
The collaborative mission resulted in the secure apprehension of five adults and one juvenile, along with the confiscation of six ATVs.
