RI woman, boyfriend, cat, found dead in believed murder-suicide
WOONSOCKET, RI — Woonsocket police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman as a murder-suicide.
According to Deputy Chief Michael Lemoine, Tanya Gagnon, 44, and Charles Johnson, 43, were found in separate rooms of their apartment on Social Street Wednesday afternoon.
Both Gagnon and Johnson were found deceased from a single gunshot wound. Police stated that a cat was also found dead in the apartment after being shot. A pet dog was found unharmed and was taken to the Woonsocket Animal Shelter.
Johnson is currently the murder suspect.
Lemoine stated that police were called to the apartment at 4:00 p.m. for a wellness check.
The couple had reportedly been together for three years and had been living together since March of this year. Records showed that there were no prior domestic calls to the residence.
Autopsy reports are pending for formal cause of death for both individuals.
