Rhode Island woman indicted in domestic violence murder of mother
A Rhode Island woman has been indicted in the murder of her mother.
According to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, on December 18th, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging 28-year-old Sharita Watkins of domestic violence murder.
Det. Sgt. Christopher LeFort stated earlier this year that at approximately 10:15 p.m. on September 23rd, Pawtucket Police and Fire personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call for a stabbing at 245 Manton Street.
The female caller, Watkins, of the same address, advised 9-1-1 that she stabbed her mother.
Upon arrival, the victim, 53-year-old Mary Melendez also of 245 Manton Street, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Detectives interviewed Watkins who gave a full confession.
Watkins is scheduled to be arraigned on January 10, 2024, in Providence County Superior Court.
