Rhode Island woman facing list of charges after fiery highway crash killed one, injured two others

A local woman is facing several charges after a deadly crash over the weekend.

On Sunday, a fatal crash occurred on Interstate 95 southbound near the Atwells Avenue exit (Exit 37A) in Providence.

According to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation and NBC 10, the incident involved a vehicle rollover and subsequent car fire.

One person died, and two others were injured.

The crash, reported around 3:09 a.m., blocked all travel lanes. The scene was cleared by 6:51 a.m.

According to Rhode Island State Police, at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Troopers arrested 36-year-old Licheva Castro of Providence, Rhode Island for 1.) Driving Under the Influence of Liquor and/or Drugs Resulting in Death- First offense, 2.) Driving to Endanger Resulting in Death – First Offense, 3.) Obstructing an Officer in Execution of Duty, 4.) Driving with a Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License- 4th or Subsequent Offense, and 5.) an active Affidavit and Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Schedule I-V (Cocaine) 10 grams or less, and Obstruction of a Police Officer in the Execution of Duty, originating out of the Lincoln Woods Barracks.

Castro was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, arraigned by the justice of the peace, and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions Women’s Intake Center, pending morning arraignment/presentment as a bail and probation violator at Sixth Division District Court.

According to court records, at Monday’s arraignment, bond was set at $25,000 surety.

A status conference is scheduled for next Monday.
