Rhode Island State Police release name of man killed crossing the highway
Police have issued an update concerning a fatal crash that took place on Wednesday.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at just before 5:45 a.m., members of the Rhode Island State Police Lincoln Barracks, Providence Police Department, and Providence Fire and Rescue responded to a fatal pedestrian accident on Route 95 North, Providence.
The investigation determined that Kevin Elliot McCort, 61, of Ocala, FL, had stopped his vehicle on Route 95 South in the area of the Eddy/Barton Street Exit. After exiting his vehicle, McCort crossed Route 95 southbound, then attempted to cross Route 95 northbound, where he was struck by a Volkswagen SUV traveling in the high-speed lane. McCort sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
The northbound lanes of Route 95 were closed for approximately one hour.
No criminal charges or moving violations are pending against the driver of the Volkswagen SUV at this time.
The accident remains under investigation.
