Rhode Island State Police investigating after dead body washes ashore near beach
A dead body was located near a Rhode Island beach on Sunday.
According to police, at just after 7:30 a.m., Jamestown Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a body that had washed ashore near Heads Beach off Seaside Drive. A nearby swimmer initially noticed the body and requested a person on shore contact authorities.
The Rhode Island State Police, Department of Environmental Management, and the United States Coast Guard were also notified.
The Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office later responded to the scene and took custody of the body.
A multi-agency investigation is now underway, with the Rhode Island State Police serving as the lead agency.
Police stated that no additional information is available at this time.
