Rhode Island mother and son found deceased living out of their car have been identified
Providence Police have identified the two individuals found deceased inside a vehicle in a parking lot outside The Miriam Hospital as 49-year-old Stanislaw Kozav and his mother, 75-year-old Irina Kozav.
Their bodies were discovered frozen in the car on Wednesday, amid dangerously low temperatures gripping the region.
According to Providence Police, speaking to GoLocal, the pair is believed to have been unhoused and living in their vehicle for an undetermined period of time.
The ongoing investigation points to weather-related deaths due to extreme cold exposure, with possible contributing health factors. Detectives have ruled out any foul play.
Kristy DosReis of the Providence Police Department emphasized community safety in a statement: “As our community experiences extreme cold temperatures, Providence Police urge residents to check on vulnerable individuals who may be in need of services. Our officers proactively monitor for unhoused community members and work to connect them with available resources and shelter whenever possible.”
