Rhode Island mother accused of throwing her child unto roadway
A Rhode Island woman is facing troubling charges.
According to Detective Sergeant Theodore Georgitsis, on Monday at approximately 1:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to Samuel Avenue for a 911 call.
It was reported that a child may have been thrown into the roadway. Upon arrival, officers encountered a domestic disturbance where upon a woman had assaulted the father of their child in common. A third party intervened who was also assaulted by the woman. During the disturbance it was reported to officers on scene that the woman had thrown her own child into the roadway striking the pavement. Accounts from persons present as well as surveillance footage corroborated the accusation.
As a result, 26-year-old Elba Monteiro of Pawtucket was arrested on the charges of Child abuse in the 1st degree Domestic simple assault, Domestic disorderly conduct Simple assault, and Disorderly conduct.
The two-year old child is currently at Hasbro Children’s hospital being evaluated for injuries. sustained.
Monteiro was arraigned in 6th District Court. Bail was set at $25,000 with surety.
