Rhode Island, Massachusetts authorities combine to arrest two from Bristol County in alleged shoplifting operation

A Bristol County pair is accused of stealing over $100,000 in merchandise in southern New England.

According to Newport Police, on May 26, 2025, patrol officers responded to Team One Newport located at 561 Thames Street, Newport, RI, for a reported shoplifting incident. Two suspects, described as a male and female in their 40s or early 50s driving a Suzuki motorcycle, were captured on video stealing items valued at $471. The case was assigned to Detectives Michael McCabe and Mark Lubin, who utilized investigative tools, including Flock Cameras, to identify the suspects: Di J. DiPinto, also known as Dennis DiPinto, and Beverly DiPinto, both of 5 Blossom Ln, Berkley, MA. Detectives discovered that Di J. DiPinto was wanted on outstanding warrants for shoplifting from the Cranston and Warwick Police Departments. 

Detectives collaborated with the Berkley Police Department to obtain arrest warrants for both Di J. DiPinto and Beverly DiPinto, as well as a search warrant for their residence. On July 10, 2025, alongside members of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s BCI office and the Bristol County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, they executed the search warrant. 

During the operation, both suspects were located and arrested, resulting in the seizure of over $100,000 worth of stolen merchandise. Detectives are currently in the process of locating and returning the stolen items to the respective stores from which they were taken. 

Both suspects were arraigned in Taunton District Court, then taken back to the Newport Police Department. Beverly DiPinto was released on $10,000 surety bail, while Di J. DiPinto was held for arraignment in Newport County Court on Friday, before being turned over to the Cranston and Warwick Police Departments. 

Newport PD released the following statement:

“This case highlights the importance of interagency cooperation in solving crimes and apprehending suspects. The Newport Police Department wishes to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of the Berkley Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s BCI office, and Bristol County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, which were instrumental in the successful resolution of this investigation.”
