A Rhode Island man has been sentenced for the murder of a woman he knew and shared an address with.

According to Rhode Island State Police, now 29-year-old Alex S. Rolin, of Biscuit City Road, Charlestown, RI was arrested and charged with Murder.

On Monday, September 19, 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Charlestown Police Department had received an E-911 call for a disturbance that occurred at the residence on Biscuit City Road. Members of the Charlestown Police Department and Charlestown Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and subsequently rendered aid to a woman who had been stabbed in her chest area. The female victim, identified as 45-year-old Grya Pihlkrantz, of Biscuit City Road, Charlestown, Rhode Island, was transported to South County Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The Rhode Island State Police Detective Bureau responded and investigated.

WPRI 12 stated that Pihlkrantz’s roommate woke up to Rolin attacking her sister, stabbing her over 20 times.

As a result of the investigation, Rolin was charged with Murder after confessing to the crime.

According to WJAR 10, Rolin was sentenced to 60 years in prison, with 35 years to serve and the remaining 25 years suspended, followed by probation for the full term of the sentence.

As part of a plea agreement, Rolin pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree murder. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed the additional charge of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. He will also receive credit for time already served since his arrest in September 2022.

Rolin apologized in court stating the victim was a wonderful person and he still doesn’t know why the murder happened.
